4 months in nicaragua

Just started looking into our next winter getaway and nicaragua got my attention. MY husband and I usually go away from mid dec - april, I'd like some advice on where we should spent the majority of our stay. With so much time I have no doubt we'll be able to travel around and explore.. but we do like to stay put in one location for a few weeks to recoup. Any advice is well appreciated.

I'd spend no more than 1 month in Granada travel 1 month and spend the rest on the beach!

I'd say your best bet would be to rent a house in Granada. http://www.gpsnicaragua.com/ have expat homes for rent. We used them three times and every experience was terrific. From Granada you can easily get around the west of the country. Unless you really just want to put your feet in the sand for that length of time, Granada has more to offer culturally than most other places in Nicaragua. A few sidetrips to several pacific communities, La Isla de Ometepe, Leon, Esteli, Matagalpa and the Corn Islands would be worth your effort.

Absolutely, and it comes if various levels of comfort, price and experiences. I prefer the ordinario (refurbed school buses) which reach almost all destinations. See our blog for schedules of the various bus services. http://casasilasbb.posterous.com/tag/bus
