Should I rent a car or rely on buses for my entire trip? Yes, yes, I know it's been asked before - but some of the responses may be stale.
I'll be in Nica (first time) in November. I have 2 weeks and want to see a number of different spots: Granada, Ometepe Island (although I assume I'd leave my car in Granada and take the boat), San Juan del Sur or beaches to the north, and then likely one more spot in the northwest before heading back home.
I understand the buses go everywhere but I like to be able to come and go as I please. Are the road conditions generally okay in these areas? Is it completely necessary to have a 4X4 if I'm just using the car to go from place to place? Will I have to dump my car in a parking lot on a main road and take a local but when I travel to the norther beaches of SJDS?
I know the major precautions: don't drive at night, stick to main roads, play dumb if pulled over by police, etc.
Appreciate the help...
