Things to do near the airport

We're arriving from a long trip from Canada at 9:30am, but will be catching the 2pm flight to Big Corn so not a lot of time to do very much, but we'd like to get out of the airport since we'll have already been in/out of 3 with long layovers on the way there.

Not interested in any sort of tours or driving around a lot since we'll be tired and sick of travelling, but is there anywhere nearby where we could sit out and have some drinks by a pool or in a nice tropical looking area (maybe a hotel?) just to get away from the airport for a bit.

I was thinking maybe the Camino Real had a nice area in it?... I wonder if the shuttle would pick us up/drop off even if we're not staying over night?

Best Western Las Mercedes also has a pool where you can have a nice drink and it is just right across the street. I Think Camino Real is a lot better though, you do not, if anything they will charge you a small fee for the shuttle.

The BW is only one of 2 places where I have had an ice cold bottle of Tona (the local very nice beer) stick to my hand..it was that cold. My vote is the BW, they always welcome you with a smile, even if you are not a guest. There are a few places in the airport for a drink, but the vibe is one of "hurry up"...best to get out and just across the street. Then head out on your trip. Have a great holiday.

Great! I think we'll probably just head across the street then, nice and easy, and a cold Tona will be just what we need (hopefully they start serving them early!) Do they have an outdoor restaurant there? The Camino Real looks like they have a nice one out by the pool so we might also check out how easy it would be to join their shuttle (I'm sure a 5 min cab ride would be cheap too!)

Restaurant is inside, but they have a snack bar, and drinks can be served around the pool area. Camino is fine, just a little stickier about "what is ur room #?"..usually though, as long as you are ordering, they let you stay. have a good (and cold) one.

I stayed at Camino Real on a Friday night a few weeks ago before heading back to the States. Their outdoor Poolside Restaurant "Las Palmeras" was not open. If you wanted a drink you had to go to the bar or other restaurant. After a few more people appeared poolside, a waiter did appear and started taking orders. There was a sign that said the outdoor restaurant area was open on Sundays.
