Going to Panama

Hello to all,

I just decided to go for a 10 day trip to Panama in late May.

I will be reading all the posts to get an idea for an itinerary and things to do/ see.

I would like to get some initial feedback as to how many days in PC are suggested (including day trips) and what other places you recommend for a first time visitor.

Thank you.

It really depends on your interests - some folks would spend all 10 days in the city and others only the day the arrive and the day the leave...

Scan through previous posts - look at www.panamainfo.com and www.visitpanama.com to get more of an idea as to what there is to see and do in the different areas of the country.

You can easily see 2 to 4 areas in 10 days.

Cheers,

Andrew

If you truly want to turn off your head to any hustle and bustle, go to Taboga Island. We went 3 years ago and have been talking of moving there since. It is quiet, small, and beautiful. I would become an expat and move there in the blink of an eye if I didn't have 10 more years before retirement. I highly recommend Cerrito Tropical for accommodations. We went in March which is the off season and were the only ones at the B&B. They have a website. In PC we did the usual tourist traveling. All that we saw was wonderful and exciting. The night life is quite different but friendly. I know you will have a wonderful and memorable vacation.

Jungle areas are very accessible - just 30 to 40 minutes out of the city (Summit Gardens - Gamboa), plus Metropolitan Park in the city itself.

Taxi's in the city are numerous and inexpensive - right now it's between $1 and $2.50 to go pretty much anywhere in the city but rates are going to go up soon - by about 35%.

There are many, many good restaurants and you can eat cheaply or very expensively - locals can get lunch for under $2.00 or you can spend $20+ per person in a restaurant. You can find almost every type of cuisine.

Cheers,

Andrew
