Are there any all inclusive resorts on the Caribbean side of Panama? I've read snorkelling is bad on the Pacific side.
No, all the AI's are on the Pacific side in the middle of nowhere. Any trip from there to snorkel will be a long trip and costly. The sites, like Canal, etc. are better accessed in the city. Why not stay in PC a few days, then beach it?
You could check out Bananas on Isla Grande - sort of an AI but small - booze is not included - but some decent snorkeling in the area - about 2 hours from PC
You'll find the best snorkeling in Panama in Bocas del Toro. The reefs are more vibrant, healthier and most are in just 4 to 6 ft. There are no AI's, but outside of Bocas Town there are a some lodges and "resorts" that offer meals and lodging. The thing is, Bocas Town is where all the restaurants and water sports are located. You'll take water taxis to the reefs and the beaches on and around the other islands. Check out www.bocas.com.
So there are snorkelling excursions that will pick us up at our hotel if we stay in PC?
ScubaPanama or Panama Divers would do day trips from PC to the Caribbean coast for snorkeling or diving - both have decent websites with contact info.
Dude, you've got to go to Bocas, the best snorkeling in all of Panama with the exception of Coiba. Contrary to what one of the above posters wrote, there are many AI's in Bocas ranging from $150 to $500 a nite and a easy one hour flight 4 to 6 times daily from PC
Go to the Bastimentos Island section of TA and you'll find several resorts that include all meals and equipment (snorkel, kayaks) and sometimes drinks. These are isolated places, not one AI resort jammed against the next. You can also simply buy your meals and drinks at your little hotel or B&B. And there are really cool places to stay that aren't AIs. Lots of different kinds of tours that pick you up at your hotel in PC.
