Airline shut down service to Boca...need recommendations!

We are booked to fly to Panama City March 25th. We had reservations with Aeroperlas to take us to Boca del toro (return flight the 31st) but just received word that they are cancelling all flights in Panama! We really do not want to cancel our trip. Wondering two things...is there another way to get to Bocas (and back( that won't take a whole day?????) and ...if we can't get to Bocas, where should we go that is accessible? We love birding, snorkling, exploring, sea kayaking, hiking. Al suggestions are so appreciated! We have never been to Panama and have been so looking forward to this adventure! We hope to salvage this trip!!!

Have you tried booking flights on Air Panama? The website is in English and easy to navigate.

If not Bocas, consider flying to David and spending the time between Boca Chica/Boca Brava on the Pacific and Volcan and Cerro Punta in the mountains. Cerro Punta has great hiking and birding. Look into Cielito Sur, a very nice B&B with great resources on hiking and birding in the area. On the Pacific, the water is a little cooler than the Caribbean and there are no coral reefs to snorkel, but there are a couple of resorts in the area that offer kayaking.

Closer to Panama City, consider driving to Portobelo on the Caribbean. There is fairly good snorkeling there through Scubapanama, which also has kayaks for the use of its guests. The colonial Spanish forts and Customs House are very interesting, too. Spend a night or two there, and then drive down the Pacific side to El Valle.

El Valle de Anton is in the mountains where it's cooler. It's far more touristy than Volcan and Cerro Punta, but it still offers nice hiking trails, plus a zipline, a market with indigenous indian art and theurapeutic hot spring/mud baths.

You can still have wonderful adventures in Panama without going to Bocas.
