OK… Let's get the Car Insurance thing strait!

We have travelled to Central America for the past 3 years and I hate the experience of dealing with car rental agencies. My past vacations to central America has not started good as the workers of car rental agencies always pushes you to buy all of these insurances. I know there are a lot of car rental companies reading this forums. They brag about their business if they have good reviews. Now, let us lay it out straight…. Tell us what to expect when we rent a car in Panama. I am traveling with my family to Panama this August. I just want to have a good start, different from my past experiences in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico and Honduras.. Please… tell us what insurances are mandatory and what are optional. I think a lot of us, tourists would gladly appreciate if you give us straight answers. I know that you guys would like to earn a living. I think we are willing to give something extra if you tell us straight out what needs to be paid! So, come on, tell us plain and simple what needs to be paid… Thank yo in advance and I am looking forward to visit your country...

You are always going to be hit with the liability insurance, no way out of that.

If you rent from PTY - a good rule of thumb - whatever they quote you as a per day price on your reservation - double it.

Good luck.
