Yes it is a safe area, maybe not quite as convenient as Cangrejo area but not bad, you can get most places from there for a $2.50-$3 cab ride, Via Porras which is the main road in front on the park is busy but it usually easy to catch cab(unless it is raining).

I walk the area all the time, no problems. 2 restaurant choices on Via Porras - Grill 50, food is OK but they have drink specials or music about every night - good place to catch a football game(NFL) . If you head the opposite direction down towards Altapa Convention Center, Jimmy's is pretty good for an inexpensive steak, fast service, a little noisy sitting outside but decent value.

Plenty of markets close by to buy food for the condo. Not many gringos in the area compared to Cangrejo but that is fine, people are friendly and the park isn't bad, use to be an old golf course I believe.

There's some new condos on the back side of Parque Omar - a friend of ours has one under construction there and between the apartment and the main road is a bit of a hike - lower income area but not unsafe.

If you can get the exact address will be able to advise more accurately as there are apartments on 3 sides of the park now.

Just up from the park off Via Porras is the new Limoncillo, there is also Cafe Dali - a night club... a few blocks away is Los Años Locos - great steakhouse.

For people watching there's a few restaurants on Via Argentina with outdoor seating that are decent. Also out on the causeway you find places with outdoor seating as well but maybe not the walkby traffic.

The park is great for walking or jogging around - about 3.5 km on the perimeter pathway.

Cheers,

Andrew

The location of the condo is 2 blocks off Via Espana near 12 of Octubru not sure if spelling is correct. It is quite a bargain so makes me a little uneasy.

If you can get the name of the apartment building that would help or the name of the street that it's on... but the area you describe is on the back side of the park - there are some new buildings on that side but you are a bit removed from everything...

If they are saying 12 de Octubre that's the opposite side of Via Espana to the Park so while they could say it's "close" to Parque Omar it may not be that close.

Cheers,

Andrew

Okay, that's one of the older apartments on the back side of the park - a two long block walk out to the main road - Via España. Or you can walk through the park - not much longer to Via Porras.

There are supermarkets and restaurants off Via Porras - long walking distance, otherwise you will need to taxi to other parts of the city - Multiplaza, Casco Viejo, etc.

It's certainly not an inherently unsafe area - that side of the park is a more lower class area - there's a large private university right on Via España so lots of traffic goes to that - so there will be taxis passing most of the day and early evening.

Cheers,

Andrew

That must be on the opposite side from Via Porras, although Via Porras intersects with Via Espana, so not 100% sure where it is, but again as Andrew pointed out it is a decent area, Via Espana is very busy.

Do you have a link to the condo you can post our shoot me in a PM, I could let you know better with a couple of pictures

Maybe this is not a convient location. Found one we Iiked better but they wanted half rent in cash wired to them and a photo copy of our passport. Was not sure how safe that was. Any suggestions?

Through whom did you rent - off VRBO or craigslist/

Should be OK but always taking a bit of a risk wiring cash.

I know a lot of the services that rent in PC, shoot us their name and we might be able to give you an opinion.
