what to do in Panama City during a rainy week

My husband and I are planning on coming to Panama City for a week in September. Assuming the worst case scenario and it rains every day, what are some of the things we could still do? We are open to all suggestions, but we are not the type of people to hang out at the mall and shop. It will be our first time to Panama.

It may rain every day but not all day, similar to Miami in the summer.

Still visit the canal while it is raining, operations still go on - covered seating area - nice new museum

Just plan on doing all on your list, and bring some rain gear. The weather will still be warm, just wet. Keep on keeping on.

I would suggest renting a car and driving out to see the Forts at Portobello and San Lorenzo, very scenic and historical remains of the Pirate days in Panama. Read up on the history before you go to better appreciate the experience. While near Portobello, consider staying on Isla Grande for a nite and experience the Carribbean vibe of Panama. Do the Panama Canal 1/2 day trip, quite interesting and a good rainy day activity. The Gamboa Resort is a great place to spend a nite and go on some of their tours, a little pricey but worth the money. Isla Taboga, 12 miles off the coast from PC is a great day excursion with great scenery and restaurants. There are several nice Museums in PC and Casco Viejo is a must see, with great history , early architecture and restaurants.

Two visits have been during the rainy season and we still had fun. Previous posters all offer great advice. Yes, bring rain gear because you will need it. We hiked, did the canal tour and puttered around Casco Viejo in the rain. Bring old shoes (because of mud) and waterproof camera bags.

Another option for shoes (sandals) would be croc type or Nike plastic or rubber type sandals that can be easily washed off. Still good sole support, but easy to clean and dry.
