Visiting Panama for the 1st time w/our kids for 7-10 days

We are planning a trip to Panama for 7-10 days at the end of Feb. We are bringing our son who is 5. What would be a good itinerary for our time there. Is it safe to rent a car and drive around on our own? How many places can we see in that time frame?

Are you thinking of basing yourself in Panama City (your question is in the section for the city) - driving in the city can be a bit daunting.

What sort of things are you interested in ?

It is safe to drive, but I would not try it in the city. Streets are not called the same thing twice. Ask your hotel to recomend a driver. We hired one for our day trips. Consider spending 1/2 of your time in Bocas. You won't need a car there. You really dont have enough time to do more than the sites in and around the city and Bocas.
