Need advise May 2014 trip

I have read a ton of these posts but many of the threads are closed so decided to start anew.

Trip planned for this May. Will be arriving late on Saturday and decided to stay in PC that night.

1. Trying to decide whether to rent a car for the week or use the bus service. If we use the bus service, I read it leave from the Albrook Mall to El Valle. Recommendation for a decent hotel near the Albrook mall?

2. Can we get a cab or should we take a bus from El Valle to Coronado?

3. What is the best way to get from Coronado back to PC? Bus? Private car?

4. For our last night, we will have a day in PC. We have toured the city and canal before on a cruise. Should we stay in the city or stay in Casco Viego? Is there anything we need to see if we stay in Casco Viego?

Thanks for your help!

We arrived on an evening flight and caught a bus west the same evening. You may be able to catch an express or other first or second class bus to Coronado and find a decent hotel there for the night, (or maybe all the way to el Valle). That would let you wake up to a beach or view other than a city and save you a travel day. There are buses that run to el Valle, but having a car there would make navigating your way round the sights a little easier. The road out there is direct and is in good shape once you find it on the PanAmerican. We missed the intersection, but if you watch you will see the signage.

We have taken the bus as well as driven from Coronado to Panama... The interurban buses are good and direct and will save you the aggravation of traffic. There are nice hotels in various parts of the city.... If you like the old classic feel, the old city has some gems in which to stay. There are also in some remarkable views to be had from hotels on the new waterfront. Unfortunately, there are not hotels with much to see or do around them that are close to the airport (PTY) and traffic is such that one needs to allow 1 to 2 hours to get from the city center to the airport. On a good day the drive can be a half hour ($30 taxi ride), but things are not always good....especially around rush hours

Albrook mall has a new TRYP hotel with reasonable rates.

If you do not want to take the bus,

take a taxi to Albrook airport. you could rent a car at Albrook airport which would avoid driving around Panama City

When you return car, take taxi to Casco Viejo hotel and enjoy walking around Casco, great places for coffee, drinks, dinner

We have great directions from the place we are staying in El Valle (Golden Frog Inn) and will probably try to drive. I will check out the TRYP hotel for night 1 and hopefully can find a hotel in Casco Viejo for night 8. Thanks for your help.
