Itinerary Help/Comments

Hi TA!

I was hoping to get some advise or any comments on my current itinerary. Looking for a relaxing yet slightly adventurous vacation to Panama City in the coming weeks and have come up with the below thus far. I'll be staying at the Marriott because of points and only want to do one night away whether it be San Blas, Portobello, or El Valle. Any thoughts?

•Sunday

-Arrive late at night (go directly to the hotel to check-in)

•Monday

-Gamboa Rainforest and Monkey Island Tour

•Tuesday

-Panama City Focus

-Casco Viejo

-Cinta Costera

-Amador Causeway

•Wednesday

-San Blas DIY maybe Overnight

•Thursday

-Overnight at Portobello or El Valle OR Embera Indian Village

•Friday

-Miraflores

-Summit Garden Zoo

•Saturday

-Leave early in the morning

For the most part, it looks like fun. Here are some thouhts: Cinta Costera is not a tourist destination. It's a boulevard. You'll see most of it when you come into the city from the airport. Amador is best seen at night. It's little more than restaurants and bars, a yacht harbor ad nice views of the city lights at night. Gamboa rainforest is not really rain forest. It's low-land jungle with a very expensive tram to an observation tower. But, for a first time visitor, it could be cool. Unless you are snorkeling or diving, forget Portobelo as an overnight trip.

So, here are some suggestions: do Amador Monday or Tuesday evening. On Tuesday, see Casco Veijo and possibly Panama Viejo. Or, see Casco Viejo in the morning, have lunch there and then go to El Valle in the afternoon. Spend Wednesday and most of Thursday in El Valle. Return to the city late Thursday afternoon. Then, see the locks and Summit Park Zoo on Friday. Have dinner Friday night at Las Tinajas.
