I think it would be difficult to find a hotel that will give you a room for just a few hours, not just in Panama but anywhere. I would probably just take a cab to one of the large (older) hotels that have a nice pool area and just hang out around the pool, like Hotel Panama or Caesar Park. Especially Hotel Panama, you can probably use the pool if you're at the pool bar / grill, and is centrally located, so you can walk around. You may want to get in touch with them.

Try the spa at the Veneto, get a massage, use their pool and changing rooms then spend a couple hours at the casino.

I don't think it would cost anymore than getting a room for night.

I'm in a very similar situation. This friday (feb 16th) my flight from LAX lands at Tocumen @ 9:45am and departure to Rio De Janiero isn't until 7pm, so I have quite a bit of time which I don't plan to spend at the Airport. The Consulate of Panama told me that for $7US I can buy a day pass which will allow me to leave the airport but I don't want to go wandering around a city I know nothing about. Does anyone have any suggestions that would be safe for a solo traveller?
