Hi,

I don't know the answer to your route question, but can recommend the Irish Pub next to the Vardar river to you: http://www.irishpub.com.mk/

My girlfriend is from Skopje (I am from Amsterdam) and we frequently visit. On the website Virtual Tourist I wrote tips about things to do in Skopje and the rest of Macedonia, have a look there for some ideas: members.virtualtourist.com/m/6117e/25d/

If you plan to see a lot of Macedonia, I can recommend the Bradt Travel Guide by Thammy Evans to you.

Cheers,

Dennis

BTW, I can especially recommend the restaurant Pivnica An, or Beer House Inn in the old part of Skopje, located in the monument Kapan An, an old inn.

\if you travel with Bus there is an Dubrovnik-Skopje route via Montenegro & Kosovo.

check: http://www.libertasdubrovnik.com/voznired.pdf for details.

If you are travelling with car (make sure you have valid green card. For example UK reg car do not have AL & SER included in theirs....

It is an long route distance wise and quite mountainous. With bus is good 12hrs.

As for Skopje, useful website on Skopje are :

http://www.skopjeonline.com.mk/

http://www.inyourpocket.com/macedonia

To get good hotel check

http://www.skopjehotels.com.mk/index.php

but one of my fav is Hotel Karposh, which is on Partizanski odredi st. easy to find and very close (walking distance) to the center . Check some of www.virtualtourist.com pages on Skopje. and do your seaserch.

If you have some more questions give us and shout.

Happy travels

Has anyone driven this route lately? Also, what about continuing on down from Skopje to Thessaloniki is Greece? How long might it take to drive to Thessaloniki from Dubrovnik, and what would be a good 1/2 way point for an overnight? will do this summer 2011. Thanks!

As of yesterday, 1 May 2012, I went from Dubrovnik to Herceg Novi, which is a major interchange just over the Montenegro border, and used a company called Bozur, who have a bus at 17 pm overnight to Skopje. Empty and comfortable until Podgorica, and then a pile of Macedonians piled in and the rest of the trip was a real flavour of Macedonian life, with accompanying discomforts (noise, beer farts, man pinching me to leer at girl in opposite seat etc). It was about 13 hours with time difference, you arrive at 5am local time, and you go through Kosovo. Definitely available on a Tuesday, but check with Bozur for days of bus. 31 euros. Being food and water.
