getting around in Nantucket

We plan on doing a day trip from Hyannis to Nantucket the first week in June.

We'll be taking the ferry in the early morning and returning late in the afternoon.

Is that enough time to get a small taste of Nantucket.

We thought we'd just walk around and soak in the local atmosphere. Will we need a car

or is there pubic transportation??

Thank you in advance for assistance in planning our trip.

Hi, you won't need a car on Nantucket. The ferry docks right at the main town where you walk, shop, eat, visit the whaling museum. Then if you want to see more, you can use public transportation:

Last summer, we did a similar day trip & did an island tour with "Gail's Tours" - who I can highly recommend:

Thank you so much for your reply. I will check out Gail's Tours. Great idea. We arrive in Hyannis on June 2nd and plan

on doing Natucket on June 3rd and Martha's vineyard on June 4th Can we book the ferry the same day or do we need to do iit in advance. and if so how far in advance?

Thank you in again for your reply. T.A, people are so great !

You don't need to make a reservation for the ferry unless you are taking a car.

How much time is required in Nantucket to get a decent taste of the Island??

Many people daytrip. Quite honestly, it is barely a taste but it is worth it. Now I don't think it is worth visiting both islands over spending more time on cape.

You definitely will not need a car. You can walk most places, rent bicycles or take a cab if it is out of the way.
