Providence to Martha's Vineyard

What is the best way to get from the airport in Providence to Martha's Vineyard? I can't get a reservation to take a car on the ferry. Should I rent a car in Providence and leave it at the ferry terminal for four days, or take another form of transportation to reach the ferry?

You could rent a car, but you'll probably want to avoid paying the rental fee + parking for 4 days while it just sits at the ferry terminal. Some other options would be:

1. Fly on Cape Air directly from Providence to the Vineyard.

2. Take a shuttle van (or taxi) from the airport to North Kingstown, R.I., and catch the high-speed ferry.

3. Take Peter Pan Bus from the airport to the Woods Hole ferry dock.

My choice route has been the New England Fast Ferry http://www.nefastferry.com/ Take the 'land connection' Town Car Service from TF Green to the dock. I avoid the Vineyard Fast Ferry out of Quonset, RI because I'm prone to seasickness and this boat is known to cause it. Other then that, the advise you have above is spot on.
