7-10 day trip in April - How's this itinerary?

We have a tentative itinerary for our trip, but have a few questions. We're an active couple in our early 60's and we live in Nicaragua, so we hike volcanos often and don't need to do that on vacation. We're thinking of 2 1/2 days in Antigua, 1 day at Pacaya Therma Spa, 2 days/1 night for Tikal. Should we plan a day on the lake? Should that be a day trip or an overnight? We like to stay at moderately priced hotels ($75-$100) and we are not night life people. Do tourists go on fishing trips on the lake or is it more of a place to visit villages, see markets, etc.

thanks in advance for your ideas - specific recommendations are highly appreciated.

You'd need to be more specific on your arrival date in April. Because holy week falls this year the week of 1-7 Apr) And hotels all over the country and specially in Antigua would be at a premium. To the point that believe it or not, you have people that make reservations a year in advance. So, you'd need to make hotel reservations well ahead of time. During normal times you should have no problem finding excellent hotels in that price range or even cheaper. Keep in mind the topography, with much higher altitudes, archeological sites, indigenous culture and climate make guatemala a totally different country than the rest of the countries in central america.

I also think that spending a few days in the cuchumatanes mountain range

would be an enjoyable experience. But don't forget the jackets. The Nebaj region with lots of areas to be explored hiking could also be included in your itinerary. Hopefully you have enough days to explore the country.

Yes, we checked out Semana Santa, but I'm sure we would have to make plans for 2013 to get a hotel!
