Day trip from Split to Krka waterfalls

Hi,

we're arriving in Split on Saturday for a week. The organised tours to Krka are quite expensive for a family of four, is it possible to use public transport to get there? Maybe a train to Sibenik, then a local bus?

Maybe price a hire car as (unlike Plitvice) parking is free. It would also enable you to drive to the falls further upstream. You should be able to get there by public transport, but there won't be many options as it is low season.

thanks will look into it, sounds like public transport not ideal for Krka!

I'd get a car as its only about 50 miles to drive and very clearly labelled roads. You can get lots of buses to Sibenik and then a local bus to Skradin if you want to use public transport so it is possible.

Car is best, since the bus is not direct and you have to get two of them and it is many hours versus less than an l hour by car. Tours for 4 are 1,600kn to 2,000 and include admission, which is 100kn each. The car will cost 300kn plus 150kn for gas, 400kn for admission and 100kn for tolls, so it is about half the cost and you have the car for the day....the highway is a toll road and locals dont like to pay tolls, so it is practically deserted and very easy, modern road. On line rates are the best. Nova, Last Minute have good deals and in town offices.

It is an easy drive from Split and the rental cars are very inexpensive. Like others said, well marked! We rented a car for 5 days that if I recall correctly was less than $200. That, and even if you did take a bus to Krka, it would be a very long walk to get from the main entrance area down into the park where the trails begin. It is beautiful, though - Have a great trip!
