2 days in Split - Wanting to travel to Hvar and Brela

My friend and I are spending 2 days in Split. We were thinking of doing Brela beach one day and Hvar Island the other day. Does anyone have any recommendations, particularly with respect to transportation? We aren't renting a car, so if anyone could suggest buses/ferries/taxis, that would be really helpful. Also, if you think there are better things/beaches to do, please let us know. Thanks!

There are daily buses to Makarska from Split, at least 8 a day, that stop at Brela. Just go to the bus station opposite the ferry terminal and ask--they speak English and you do not need advance reservations but can buy a ticket in advance if you wish. So this is easy. The ferries to Hvar go to Stari Grad, where the local bus is always waiting to take you to Hvar Town if that is your destination. Use the bus to see Jelsa, Stari Grad and other towns too. Catamrans go directly to Hvar Town from Split, in an hour. Ferries take two. Unless you travel in high season, you can usually get a catamaran ticket same day. Ferry tickets never sell out, so they too are bought on the same day.
