Dubrovnik to Montenegro and back

Hi

Visiting Dubrovnik in September for 9 nights. Thought would be a good idea to spend 2/3 days in Montenegro (Kotor).

Would like to hire a driver to take me to MN on the way there...because, i want to stop off at a few places on the drive down.....like nice quiet villages etc. Does anyone know of any private taxi driver companies that can do this? And rough cost?

(driving myself is not an option as i cant drive!)

Would like to get the bus back from MN to Dubrovnik but finding it very hard to find any bus timetable information (MN - Dubrovnik)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

florio car is the best transfer company in Dubrovnik.

Montenegro is good for a day trip so you can just book a day tour - private tours are the best option here - and return to Dubrovnik.

I went to montenegro on the bus from Dubrovnik - takes about three hours.

we stayed overnight in Kotor (lovely old town) and we decided then to get a taxi back to Cavtat (15 km before Dubrovnik).

there is a taxi rank outside the old town of Kotor, to the right. Ask one of the drivers there and they will decide among themselves who will take you. Some drivers are very shy of heading into Croatia with the after effects of the war but they will find you a driver that will take you (i.e. someone who didn't fight in the war).

The driver we got was lovely - first, he took us to his house, and gave us some fresh fruit for the journey.

The charge was the equivalent of 70 Euro. Well worth it.

Bring your passport you will need it.

Whales, did you tip for your taxi ride back? Are these independent taxi drivers? Linda

If you decide to just take a bis directly to Kotor and back, while you are based in Kotor you will find that there are many "mini-buses" that travel to the other towns of Montenegro, especially those around the Bay.

If it was places in Croatia you wanted to stop, then it would be best to have a private driver.

There should be at least a daily bus between Dbv and Kotor. Online timetables are unreliable.

off pitney

Yes we did tip - I think about 10 Euro or something, but you don't have to tip if you don't want to - or else just give what you want yourself. We tipped because the driver was lovely and gave us some fruit for the journey, showed us his house and family and had great conversation with us.

He was a regular licensed taxi driver and he was at the taxi rank just outside the old town, to the right. There were lots of taxi drivers there. They are legit.

thank you so much for all your help.

i think i'll do what whales did - take the bus from Dubrovnik to MN (Kotor) and when im ready to leave 2 days later will try and find a driver (hopefully the same one you had whales!!) to take us to Cavtat. From Cavtat i can take the boat back to Dubrovik right??

i pressume the boats from Cavtat to Dub leave quite often? i would be in real trouble if missed the boat back as we flying home the next day!

If you need to save money, you'll be able to get a bus from Kotor to Herceg Novi easily, then haggle with drivers there for a ride to Cavtat.

Teena, I've been trying to find out about public transport from Dubrovnik to to Montenegro also.

The bus timetable is here: http://www.libertasdubrovnik.com/voznired.swf

Also have a look at this link, it has a lot of information about getting from Montenegro to Dubrovnik, as well as Kotor to Herceg Novi if you were to take MeanderDC's advice:

http://www.mimosa-montenegro.eu/travel

I was hoping to do a day trip by bus but I don't think its possible. The timetable shows Dubrovnik-Kotor at 10.30am and arrives back at 5pm (the Mimosa site above says it leaves at 3pm), which would only give about 4 hours in Kotor. Thats no good to me, but it might suit you?

Hi Teena

There is also a public bus from Cavtat to Dubrovnik. It is quite cheap and takes about 30 mins. It runs about 6 or 8 times a day.

Enjoy, Jean
