Driving from Dubrovnik To Split

Hi.... me and my fiance are visiting Croatia in late August/early September and have already booked to stay in Dubrovnik for 4 nights, and are thinking of driving to Split. Does anyone know how long it takes to drive to Split, and if there is anywhere along the way worth staying for a night?

Also, if you have any suggestions for Apartments in Split, that would be great!!

It's about 4-5 hours to drive I think. Expect more traffic on the weekends especially, as you will be there in high season.

You might stop in the Makarska Riviera if you drive up the coast. However, it's more common to island hop - Korcula and/or Hvar for example. Driving a car to the islands (or just one) is possible with ferries, but it's more convenient not to have a car at all in many ways on the islands, and if you stay in town you probably won't want or need a car, anyway (and you certainly don't need a car in Dubrovnik). There is daily bus service year round between Dubrovnik and Korcula plus a ferry 2X a week and perhaps a catamaran in August-September. There's a daily catamaran from Korcula to Hvar and Split every day as well.

Yes, do you need the car as both ferries and buses are excellent? If there are places you are very keen to see on the way, then get one, but it doesn't sound as though there are. Both Dub and Split can be expensive to keep a car - parking charges!

On the way to Split, don't miss to visit Ston and the oyster farming at the peninsula of Peljesac. You can stay in Makarska, or closer to Split in Omis, it is a very nice town at the place where river Cetina enters into Adriatic.

Since you're coming in high, high season this trip may take a bit longer. Why not take the ferry boat to Korcula and enjoy the balance of your stay on a lovely island. Schedules permitting you could then take the ferry to Split. Seeing the coast from the sea is, of course, so much different from the bus. The views from the bus are also very nice and it is very inexpensive.
