Anywhere other than the walled city?

We are in Dubrovnik for 1 day on a cruise stop. What do TA's advise if we don't wish to go to the walled city? We like Churches, architecture, streetscapes......not into beaches.

Many thanks

I guess I don't understand because the Old walled city is full of churches, architecture, and neat streets, exactly what you are looking for!

Thanks Barry,

We gave the walled city a pretty good shake on each of our previous travels to Dubrovnik. This is our motive for seeking suggestions on alternatives.

Cheers.

If you're arrival in Dubrovnik is during high season, perhaps you may want to get a very good overview by taking a ride on our Cabrio bus excursion. It's 2 hours long and will show you the entire town, stopping at the viewpoint above the old town.

Also we now have the reopened cable car which is a short ride to the top of the mountain, another great view of the entire town.

You can also take an excursion down to Cavtat, a 40 minute ferry ride down the coast. A lovely place to spend your limited time town in our town.

On your previous trips here, did you visit the Rupe Museum as most cruisers seem to miss the best of all our hidden gems.

Ericguy, if you already know Dubrovnik, and you are interested to see impressive botanical garden, then take a taxi and visit Arboretum (close to Slano) and perhaps have a lunch in Slano;s Ambassador. This is possible by public transport but not practical.

Another option is to go and have swim and lunch in Zaton, which will be 12km from Dubrovnik, again you need to go by car. Above Zaton there are nice hinterland villages to explore (Orasac) that we visit with groups for organized folclor dinners.

At last, it is possible that you take excursion to 3 elaphite islands, or just one (Lopud) depending of how much time you have. Have fun and happy travel.

If into architecture, then Ston and Ston Mali are simply a must when in the area as well as the above mentioned Arboretum garden in Trsteno. You should get a private tour to those places.

You can choose:

'Southern' tour, which involves panorama sightseeing from the hill above Dubrovnik, two very nice churches near that spot (Brgat and Mandaljena), Cavtat city and riviera, and old part of Mlini, or

'Northern' tour, which involves sightseeing from the Dubrovnik bridge (above Gruz port), Zaton, Dubrovnik Sun Gardens, Trsteno Arboretum, Slano, Ston and Mali Ston, all of them very nice peaceful places.

That would be very nice, for a change.

Best regards.

If you like oysters, you may try Ston and Mali Ston. Not too far away and you could see the longest wall in Europe.
