Split to Plitvice Lakes to Piran in one day?

Hi -

We are hoping to drive from Split to the Plitvice Lakes to Piran in one day. Is this feasible? We will spend the day prior in Split and day after in Piran so the only real sightseeing will be the Lakes. I just want to make sure that we will have enough time and it would be too much driving. Here is what I am thinking it will be:

8:30 am Leave Split

10:30/11- Arrive at Lakes

11-5- Lakes

9 pm - Arrive at Piran

Does this sound accurate?

Thanks!

Yes, you are right , to much drive and not enough time, sounds like a rally .

Doable, of course, but why?

Seems that you want to make Europe in one week

It's an American style. Yes, you can make it. But, that depends on what time of the year you go there. In the Summer, specially on Saturdays and Sundays it's impossible - too many cars and people on the road. Before June 15 and after September 1st, you can make it.

Split to Plitvice to Piran is only a little more than 300 miles total distance (500km for those who prefer the antiquated metric system). Croatia is a small country! If you maximize expressway time, that's a do-able one-day trip, although it might not leave all that much time for Plitvice Lakes exploration.

You'll be off the expressways for about 40 miles heading to the park, and about 30 miles leaving the park. And you'll be off the expressway for most of your trip through northern Istria. I'm not sure what you're traffic situation will be like off the expressways, but the expressways in Croatia are excellent and relatively new. You can really fly (up to the speed limit, of course) on the expressways.
