Best way to travel around Istria/Rijeka

Hi

We're travelling to Croatia on Sunday and fly into Pula. We're then staying in Rijeka for 3 nights then travelling across to Rovinj for 4 nights and flying back out from Pula. What is the cheapest/quickest way of travelling from;

Pula to Rijeka

Rijeka to Rovinj

Rovinj to Pula

thanks!! :-)

If you are spending time in Istria, I would definitely rent a car. A car is crucial if you want to see hilltowns. Any particular reason you are basing in Rijeka? The reason I ask is because it is not really a pretty city, though it does have its own character. It is good if you plan on seeing islands which may be what you are doing.

However, if all you want to do is get from A to B without getting adventurous, you could take the bus.

Good luck!

Hi

Thanks for the reply. We're going to Rijeka to be able to see the islands :) then over to rovinj for the pretty bit. Unfortunately a car is out of our budget so just trying to assess whether bus or train is best and whether its relatively easy for a newcomer to croatia :)

No trains in Istria, but plenty of buses, though some great places will be out of reach. For a glimpse of what you'll be missing, check my MTB Street view movie from Grožnjan (close to Rovinj) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obZhjAH3Nh8. If you want to access the islands, spend a night or two there, no need to go back to Rijeka (though, I do love that city). See Rijeka on your way to the islands (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7VTsHBfvYs) but on return spend your time in Opatija/Volosko (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXKdKyvQbQE). Before going to Rovinj - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9M35I33JH00. :)

Sorry, but due to mostly false claims, Google started muting audio on my old movies which had background music. I have marked those as private and reuploaded with just the original sounds (even better), under the same numbers. To make it easier for you, here are the new links.

Rijeka (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYbdH6GT-DQ), Opatija/Volosko (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNQSaA49T7I) and Rovinj (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULrHgk7w4RQ). Grožnjan movie had no music so the same link is still valid. Please browse for other movies or ask about anything specific. Sorry for the inconvenience, I wish there was another way.
