Are there lights on the road or is it a dark road drive?
Not all of the 80km is lit, but the road isn't very narrow in any places or winding.
You think its safe driving all the way down to kotor at night?
If you are confident driving on the right at night, you will be advantaged by no queues at the border. Take an automatic, it will save you a big headache. There are plenty of fallen small rocks on the roads so take out insurance that covers tyres. I damaged two tyres thanks to rock debris on their roads. It is not mountainous, the road is flat and pretty straight, it winds a bit in Kotor bay but that is at sea level.
If you don't fancy driving at night, you can book a night in Hotel Croatia in Cavtat which is around the corner from the airport, it is worth the experience, then the next day go to see Dubrovnik and then drive to Kotor. Dubrovnik city is about 20mins from Cavtat and the border is another 15mins from there.
