Hop on hop off bus service?

Does Kotor have a hop on hop off bus tour service? If so where are the bus stops and how much?

Montenegro as a whole does not have these sorts of services unfortunately.

Tours can be arranged directly through most accommodation places or by visiting the tourist info centre.

Firstly, we had been on the most wonderful hop on-hop off bus in Malta the day before, so when we saw the cute open top bus in this port, we were so excited even though the cost was EXTREMELY steep at 20 Euros each. That was where the dream turned into a nightmare. I wish I could give it a negative rating.

There were plenty of representatives trying to get people onto the bus, but that was where their enthusiasm stopped. We arrived around 9:10 and were told that the first bus left at 9:30 even though the brochure said 9AM. So we wandered around the old town for a few minutes and returned at 9:30. At 9:45 we were told that we were the only people who had purchased tickets and that we were going to have to wait until it was fuller and could leave at 10:00. We considered asking for our money back at that time, but decided to stick it out (in hindsight that was our mistake). At 10:15 they begrudgingly started the tour with about 12 people.

The first 5 minutes of the tour was driving in a big circle and picking up 4 more guests. Finally we were on our way. It was a pleasant drive and good information on the pre-recorded narrative (even though my husbands head phone jack was not working). We passed directly through all stops thinking that they were going to stop on the way back.

The first stop was the furthest away at the roman mosaics. We were not really offered the opportunity to "hop off" and catch the next bus, rather, they said they would just wait 10 minutes for us. 10 minutes was more than enough time however there was no WC at this stop.

The next stop was Perast. They drop you off in the parking lot, so at first glance you think that the only thing to do is go to the islands with the churches (there were many water taxi's waiting to transport you). Yet there is a charming town just beyond the bus stop. The guide on the bus told us that we should get off and that the next bus would be coming through at 11:30. We inquired if we could stay longer but she made it clear that NO other buses would be running that day because the weather looked cloudy (not sure why that would affect the bus schedule). So we were a bit disappointed because a half hour was not even enough time to walk to the other side of the boardwalk and back. We could not stop for lunch, we could not visit the church islands. We scurried back to the bus stop arriving exactly at 11:25 with the others from our bus.

That was when the waiting began. We waited and waited. Finally at around 11:55 one of the other bus patrons asked the gate operator to call and inquire about the tour bus. They told us it would be there in 10 minutes. In about 15 minutes a bus finally came. However, to all of our shock, it was a full bus filled with other hop on hop off patrons none of whom were instructed to get off the bus. Therefore, there was no room on that bus for us. We asked the bus driver and the guide about that next bus and they told us that they would be sending a special bus for us and it would be another 10 minutes. At 12:45 that smaller bus finally arrived with the explanation that their was bad traffic.

All of us were very disgruntled because instead of spending time in the beautiful town, we were strung along and made to wait in the parking lot for over 1.15 hrs. The bus did offer to stop at the other stops, but none of the patrons trusted that we would be picked up, so there was no more hopping off. It never rained. We all agreed that we would speak with the manager when we got back.

Well, that was an utter disaster. Instead of apologizing and offering us a refund.... THEY got mad at us!!! They started YELLING at us in the public square. The manager was very defensive and said "What's your problem?" He had the attitude that we got back, so we completed the tour. He condescendingly offered to buy us coffee and get to know us instead of giving us any partial refund.

This was the worse customer service experience ever. Kotor was a beautiful place but this experience completely ruined this port for us.

Customer Service is definitively a work in progress here, I am sure that if you'd hired a private tour, your review would have been totally the opposite, I am sorry you had such a terrible experience....

Thanks for all the replies, unfortunately its too late for me because ive been home nearly two weeks now. I can say that Kotor is a beautiful walled town, worthy of exploring for an hour or two. Yes i got the hard sell from the bus touts to go on the 20euro tour, told them we would consider it when we had walked round Kotor. It was a baking hot day that day,all we wanted to do after a nice cool beer in one of the numerous bars and cafes is dive into a pool and that meant getting back to the ship (via tender). If i had done my homework properly there are nice little beaches about a 10/15 minute walk from the jetty.

When you arrive at the Cruise Ship terminal your are encouraged to buy the Kotor Open Tour Hop on - Hop Off service. - Don't bother - Do the walking tour of Kotor instead

The bus drove around the outskirts of Kotor in heavy traffic and then along the coast to the Roman Mosaics and views of churches on small islands and the car park at Persat. Most people stayed on the bus and saved their time for a walking tour of Kotor which was in the price. Not a lot of info from the tour guide.

The experience was saved by the Walking tour Guide Sara or Saha ( a graduate in Tourism) who gave us an excellent tour of Kotor which lasted about 40 mins. Very knowledgable, great sense of humour good english and good fun.

Hi we just came back from Kotor and used the hop on and off bus service for an afternoon trip. We apparently took the last bus and wen we got to one of the return stops we opted get off and explore and took the little boat trip over to the tiny island to look around - beautiful.... The bus company said that it was fine to get off and that as this was the last bus they would send out a bus to pick us up at an agreed time some 45 minutes later which was only 5pm but it was all confirmed. We got to the agreed meeting spot early and to cut a very long story short the bus never returned to collect us as agreed! We were lucky enough to hail a cab down and pay for the taxi journey back to our cruise ship but this is a very unreliable service and i would not recommend the use of this service later on in the day even if they make arrangements with you they cannot be trusted.
