Bus/minivan travel from Luang Prabang

We want to travel from Luang Prabang to Vientiane to get the Bangkok night train from Nong Khai on the same day. Has anyone done this? What time do you have to leave Luang prabang? What is the best mode of transport? Minivan or bus or private car?

Considering it is a very long journey from LP to Vientiane by bus (10-12 hours), and the night train leaves at 6:30 I think, you really need to take either the nightbus, you leave LP the day before and stay overnight in Vientiane and enjoy a day there, or you fly to to Vientiane.

But you won't be able tomleave LP in the morning by bus, and make it to the train (besides, one slight delay and you miss it - something I personally would not risk)

Thank you so much. I had feared that we wouldn't have enough time to do it.

you can take the night bus ,which is most practical for you.and you would better buy sleeping bus tickets which will feel more comfortable.and sleeping bus tickets sold in the bus station in LP always provide new and safe big bus.hope that you can search for more info when you are in Lp.
