Shopping !

I'm going to Dubai for the first time in June for my birthday with a girl friend. We don't want to spend all our time shopping but obviously it's on the list. We are staying at the Al Bustan Rotana. Can anyone recommend where we should head for good shopping.....and what to buy......... any other suggestions as to what not to miss would be really appreciated.

Al Bustan Rotana is by the airport.

The nearest mall to you is City Centre Mall and you are quite close to Wafi City Mall and Bur Juman mall. You are on the right side of the creek to visit the Spice and Gold Soukhs.

You are also close to Karama for all the shops selling fake designer goods

That's brilliant, thankyou. I will buy a lonely planet guide book tomorrow. What's on the other side of the creek ? and one last question... is the gold good value ?

On the other side of the creek are lots of things you will read about on here Mall of the Emirates, the Burj, The Madinat and the other side of the creek is the main tourist part and Jumeirah beach.

The gold price is fixed and the daily price will be as widely published in the newspapaer that day - what makes the difference is the labour cost of making something up and how much margin the shopkeeper wants to make.

So jewellery purchased in Dubai is often valued at 2 or 3 times more than you paid for it in Dubai when you get in back to the UK.
