can someone please tell me the currency rate in the uae at the moment, will i get more the 5 dirhams to the pound because its only 4.89 here in the uk

The current rate posted on Google is 5.21. To get the rate just post "1GBP in AED" in google and hit return.

Then I'd advise getting maybe 50GBP worth before you come, then go to MOE. We got just less than 5 at DBX on tuesday.

5.21 is the "inter bank" FX rate supplied by CitiBank.

The tourist rates in the malls tend to be around 1% (or a bit more) less. The size of the GBP discount is sometimes governed by the volatility in the currency markets, and note the USD (to which the AED is fixed) was down some 3% yesterday, so exchange houses will be looking to protect their margins with slightly bigger discounts.
