We can help if you help us by giving some more information.

What is your budget ?

Do you want to be on the beach or in the city ?

Do you want traditional or modern Dubai ?

Take a look at the Things to do in Dubai section of the Top Questions for Dubai and see what takes you fancy.

Do you want to visit other Emirates (Abu Dhabi, Furjairah, Sharjah, etc) or do you just want to stay in Dubai ?

Thank you for your reply I know as the other person states there will be loads of opinions but i just felt if people had eaten locally/shopped locally all off the tourist trap then i can get an incite. We do not need a beach but a pool would be necessary and yes is it easy to cross borders to drive to other countries or is it better to get a flight?? Thank you for keeping your cool

Surely, that's the whole point of trip advisor - ask the expert.

Hi Jojo

We really will try to help but you need to say what your budget is for an hotel - there are hundreds of places to stay from £50 a night to over £1,000 a night.

So it sounds like a city hotel would suit you best. Older and traditional or modern and within easy reach of shops and restaurants ?

Bur Dubai and Deira are the areas least frequented by tourists BUT you will have to get taxis to see sopme of the other sights you may have heard about in Dubai.

You don't have to cross a border to visit another Emirate like Abu Dhabi or Fuhairah they are part of the UAE (like going from England to Scotland or Wales) but to travel to Oman for example you will need to cross a border and you would need to ensure that you have informed the hire care company if you do this.

Take a look at this excellent trip report from a first timer to Dubai and check out the photos at the end of the report - they were all set to head out of Dubai exploring but found plenty to do in Dubai without hiring a car.
