Ramadan query

I have a wee query that hope someone can advise on researching do's and don't and exclusions during Ramadan, advice states that children are exempt until puberty? Is this correct?

Our daughter is 10 however very tall for her age probably looking around 13. Any advice around exemption or not.

Thanks

Well, Ramadan in Dubai is quite an interesting experience...

The way this month affects your holiday:

- You cannot eat/drink in public places until 'Iftar' (Break of Fast).

- You are required to dress more modestly then usual.

- At most hotels > Alcohol is offered only after 6pm, some local hotels place a temporary ban on the sales of Alcohol during this month.

- Because the summer heat can be unbearable - many tourists tend to start their day after sunset.

I think young children are exempt from country's strict religious laws... But in case if she's seen eating/drinking in public & a local reports it, things can get messy, usually parents are held responsible & are given a final warning or fined.

As a 10 year old she would not be obliged to fast if she was Muslim but there is no need for her to eat and drink in public anyway. You can eat at your hotel and the malls have curtained off areas where restaurants are open for non Muslims. You can also carry small bottles of water and pop into the toilet if you feel like a sip of water.

It's unlikely that in the heat and humidity of July/August you will want to be walking miles in the open air anyway so it shouldn't prove much of a hardship for any of of you to avoid public drinking/eating during fasting hours.
