Advance booking

We are planning to visit in Jan 2015 and I've been browsing on couple search engines for hotels and I found that almost all hotels don't allow to select dates for 2015 and only goes up to Dec 2014.

Any idea on how much further in advance they allow to book?

I believe January is peak season so rates would be higher.

Also, any suggestions for hotel or apartment which can accommodate 3 adults and price per night @ 100 AUD +/- 20%?

Appreciate your help in advance.

That's a pretty low budget for Dubai hotels for 3 adults. Which area?

We can go up to $150 a night if need be. As for the areas, nothing particular in mind but any area will do which has easy access to public transport and taxi and is in @ 10 Kms radius of city centre.

Oh, and we are planning for 7 nights, I hope that's enough. This is one of the reason why we don't want to spend much on hotel which we are mainly going to use for sleeping since we'll be out all day sight seeing and visiting all tourist attractions etc.

The areas you might look at are Al Barsha, Bur Dubai or Diera as there might be options in your price range. Jan is very high season in Dubai so 100-150AUD doesn't go very far here at that time of year. Maybe look at the Citymax hotels or The Ibis? If you look at a booking site like bookings.com, the above areas should have some options.

Because of the way Dubai has grown there is no city centre as such, rather there are different areas of the city and they can all be reached by metro or taxi.

So the best location will be where you want to stay and one that fits your budget so have a look at the different areas and find an hotel that you like in an area that suits you. www.booking.com enable you to select by price and area.

Here is a map - it's not to scale and because it has been squashed to fit on one page distances are deceptive so are much further than they appear. It's actually the Big Bus tour map but it helps as all places of interest are on it.

…bigbustours.com/UploadedFiles/DUBAI_DAY_TOU…

Dubai is split into 4 main areas

1.The creek to the bottom left of the map, which is the oldest and most traditional part; with Deira to the left of the creek and Bur Dubai to the right. You can walk all round the creek. If you want to be close to cultural sites then stay here.

2. Downtown (for Dubai Mall) and Sheikh Zayed Road - the area around Burj Khalifa and the thick grey line running through the map (this is the main arterial road through Dubai towards Abu Dhabi and the metro runs parallel to it). Dubai Mall is a very popular area with many shops and a lakeside promenade and anything along Sheikh Zayed Road in this area give easy access to the metro.

3. Al Barsha, which is the area around Mall of the Emirates and has good metro links.

4. The Marina, The Palm and Jumeirah beach walk up at the top right of the map - this is the newest area and has many nice hotels it is more touristy and less traditional than Deira and Bur Dubai and you can walk the length of the beach, which is around 1 mile of cafes and restaurants

Hotels in this area are some of the most expensive and anything with private beach access even more so. If you stay on the Palm then you will need to use taxis as there is no metro link and walking is not recommended due to the intersection of many road at the base of the palm and difficulty for pedestrians to walk on or cross the intersection

That budget is very light for January as the shopping festival is on and therefore hotels are busy but you will find something 2 or 3* in Deira or Bur Dubai and possibly Al Barsha so take a look at www.booking.com or www.expedia.com and range by price until you find something that suits. When you have a few choices then people on here will happily make recommendations on your choices.

NB You will find very cheap accommodation in Sharjah but be aware that it is not in Dubai but another Emirate and travelling to Dubai from there can take over 2 hours in heavy traffic

Sorry about the formatting, it keeps losing it.

I typed areas on top and underneath the hotels in those areas.

If you want a pool knock the Holiday Inn Express's off the list and also Ibis, although some of them do let you use the Novotel close by pool for a small charge.

Of all of the ones you list I would go for

Winchester Grand or Deluxe

Golden Sands

Both of the Winchester's get good results on here and they are within 10 mins walk of a metro station

Thanks, Latimer. Winchester's it is then, will keep an eye for good deal since we've got lot of time before we book it.

And yes, pool and non-smoking room are the two requirements that we have apart from location.
