Couple days in Dubai

In Dubai for a couple of days in August.

Flight gets in late at 21.45 Monday and leaves Thursday early at 08.15.

That gives us 2 full days, we just want to do a city tour, visit the Souk(old) and see Fountains and The Mall where the fountains are.

Problem really is the late and early flights and time to get to/from Hotel .

Are we better off-- 1. staying very close to Airport and Metro/Taxi to town or 2. Staying in City or 3. Staying Beach.

There's no need to stay at the beach unless you want to go to the beach - and beach hotels are generally more expensive than city hotels.

The airport is in the city but the area around it is not the most interesting. Better to take a taxi 15/20 minutes and get a hotel in Downtown Dubai, around Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall/Dubai Fountain. It's a great area with lots of restaurants and cafes. Or stay on Sheikh Zayed Road which has metro stops and is a few minutes in a cab from Dubai Mall etc.

If you say what your budget is per night for the hotel you'll get some suggestions.

For a brief stay and late arrival/early departure, my standing recommendation would be to stay near the airport and just commute to where you want to be. The airport is in the heart of the city and not too far anyway.

You don't state a budget, but the following are potential options:

Premier Inn Dubai International and Holiday Inn Express- these two are good hotels, basic comfort

Al Bustan Rotana and Le Meridien, mid range, nice facilities- my personal favorite is Al Bustan

About 10 mins away from airport is Grand Hyatt and Raffles, more upmarket/luxury establishments

Thanks for the replies. Budget around US$250- per night. I did see Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach at less than $200- per night which has good TA ratings.

Sofitel JB is 33+ km from airport, may not be the best location given your arrival and departure times and the fact that you will be staying for a couple days only. You will also be commuting quite a bit to see the attractions you listed (souq, Dubai Mall, fountains, etc.).

If budget isn't an issue, I would look for something more central.

That Sofitel is at the opposite end of town from the airport and the souqs, also a fair old way from Dubai Mall etc. And traffic in the area is awful. Really not worth it if the beach is not important for you.

Cool thanks, you think closer to the Old District (and therefore Airport ) or Burj Khalifa area. ? Does the "Metro" run through both districts?
