3 hr stopover at Dubai with separate bookings - long enough?

Hi All,

I am hoping to travel to the Maldives from Dubai (DXB) airport at 11pm from terminal 1 in June with Sri Lankan airlines HOWEVER do not arrive at DXB until 8pm at terminal 3 (with Emirates). The two bookings are completely separate so I am assuming that I will have to collect baggage and check in and go through security.

Do you think 3 hours will be long enough to do this???

Thanks

Probably not and perhaps something worth checking out before booking.

Definitely DON'T follow the arrival signs, go through immigration, collect your bags and transfer landside to terminal 1 as in all probability you will miss your onward flight.

However, as you have booked then your airlines may have a luggage transfer agreement - you'll have to check - and if they do then you can have your bags tagged all the way through by the Emirates check in desk at your departure airport.

This means that you do not follow the arrival signs but instead just follow the transit signs, go through transit security (not immigration) and emerge in terminal 1 departures.

If they don't have a baggage transfer agreement then you should still follow the transit signs and report to the transfer desk in the transit area with your baggage tags to ask for their assistance. They will collect your bags (there is a small charge) and transfer them to your next flight

or

You could pay more and use the Marhaba transfer service, which will provide assistance

As you are really pushed for time I would probably pay for the Marhaba service.

Emirates and Sri Lankan are Interline partners so it should be possible to check baggage right through, suggest you call Emirates

As Blighty mentioned, Sri Lankan and Emirates have an interline agreement. Hence you should be able to tag your luggage through directly to Sri Lanka.

3 hours in Dubai is ok. You will have a good walk between the two terminals. You will arrive just before peak times and leave just at the start of peak times.

If you are not too good on your feets, consider to pay a Marhaba service. They will not help you greatly but they will offer you a buggy.

Please check you luggage allowance to be ok with both carriers.
