Taxis in Dubai

Hi All,

We are 4 adults with only 2 days in Dubai. We were thinking of hiring a taxi one day to take in the beach views/hotels, the Shiek's palace, maybe the fort and finally the gold/spice souks. If we were to hire one for about say 4 hours - is this possible off the meter and if so, what would a reasonable pricing range be?

We looked at the Big Bus but for 4 people we thought we could work something out cheaper doing it this way. Are we going about it the wrong way or would this be a reasonable way of travelling around Dubai?

Thanks.

Depending on the time of the year you are visiting as it could be hot and humid and not comfortable to walk outside during the summer, I would suggest to use a combination of metro and taxi as several locations you mentioned are walking distance from metro. Just pick a taxi from the street and ask him to take you to your next location. Remember to organize your stops according to the geographic location in sequence.

If you still prefer to hire a taxi, I believe 6 hours from Dubai Taxi costs 500 dirhams.

It won't be done ''off the meter'' but can be done for a fixed rate. Taxis in Dubai are government controlled and always use the meter unless you pre-arrange a fixed length of time. Don't expect your taxi driver to be a tour guide and do know where you want to go rather than just getting in and asking to see the sights.

You can find info here: rta.ae/wpsv5/links/special_needs/en/taxi.html It doesn't give the latest rates for hiring for several hours but you can phone them and ask/book.

Also, taxis are so numerous here that you don't need to worry about flagging one down off the street whenever you need to. And it saves paying for the waiting time. About the only times this advice wouldn't work is Friday mornings or if you're visiting some out of the way area.

I'd plan a rough itinerary and use taxis or the metro to move around. Or you could arrange a proper tour with a guide if you feel you need one.

When are you coming and what sort of things to you like to do ? There are plenty of articles on this page.
