Dubai Half Board - is it worth it?

Looking to go to Dubai in the next two weeks, just wondering if it's worth paying extra for Half/Full board or just go B&B? Any help/advice would be great! Also...nice but reasonable places to stay? Thanks :)

'Reasonable' means different things to different people.

I would not go for half board as you will be stuck to your hotel and it's more fun to get out and about.

In my opinion, no it isn't as there are so many great places to eat out. Shame to go all that way and eat in the same hotel every night so I would just go B&B

The best area will be the one that suits what you want to do and one where you can find something in your budget or which suits your definition of nice but reasonable as that will mean different things to different people.

Here is a map - it's not to scale and distances are deceptive. It's actually the BIg Bus tour map but it helps as all places of interest are on it.

Dubai is split into 4 main areas

1. The creek to the bottom left of the map, which is the oldest and most traditional part; with Deira to the left of the creek and Bur Dubai to the right. Accommodation is cheapest here and there are good metro links - you can go to the public beaches close to Jumeirah Mosque, which is at blue flag 15 on the map.

2. Downtown and Sheikh Zayed Road - the area around Burj Khalifa and the thick grey line running through the map (this is the main arterial road through Dubai towards Abu Dhabi and the metro runs parallel to it)

3. Cheaper accommodation can also be found in Al Barsha, which is the area around Mall of the Emirates so that is another area to search in

4. The Marina and Jumeirah beach walk up at the top right of the map - this is the newest area and has many nice hotels it is more touristy and less traditional than Deira and Bur Dubai. The most expensive hotels are here with anything that has its own beach most expensive of all.

Suggest you decide on your budget, pick an area and then find a couple of hotels you like the look of for your budget by using www.booking.com or www.expedia.com and then we can help to narrow it down

Happy hunting

A lot of hotels this time of year offer complimentary HB . They generally entitle you to dinner and sometimes lunch in the buffet and many offer a credit towards their a la carte restaurants .

If you can get this it can be worth it as it is free you are not tied to eat in the hotel every night. However I would not pay for HB as you then feel obliged to eat in the hotel every night and you can eat out for the same price.
