Two busses will take you to the station where to take the Schafberg train.

From Salzburg take bus number 150 to strobl and then bus 546 to that train station. Average journey time inlcuding connection times: 100 minutes

Search your connections at www.postbust.at/en

Check nationwide travel options here: www.oebb.at

Salzburg > St. Wolfgang: as described above or, alternatively, same bus (route #150) to St. Gilgen and then by ferry. Not available during winter season, check availability of ferry service on their website:

schafbergbahn.at/service/downloads/infofolde…

St. Wolfgang > Vienna: Bus to Bad Ischl, local train to Attnang-Puchheim and finally long-distance (inter-city) service to Vienna.

Depending on the time of year and what you want from your travel experience, the "best" way could be train, bus, or automobile.
