best memory of St Wolfgang

We shall be in St Wolfgang for 5 nights in September....one day Schafberg...one day Hallstatt....one day Pilgrim's Walk....then we have one more day to make one more wonderful memory!

Do we go left from St Wolfgang and walk into Strobl or do we catch the ferry across to the other side of the lake and walk either left or right?

We don't want to travel far on this day. We just love simple days with an hour or two walk and then a lovely cafe with a sensational view.

That's what our best memories are made of.

I would walk left towards Strobl.

First part you follow the road.

Last past is very scenic with great views down the lake.

Once in Strobl catch either a 546 or 150 Bus to Bad Ischl. (546 more scenic)

Visit one of the two world famous Zauner cafe's

The one on the Esplanade is great if the weather is good.

Bad Ischl is a lovely historic town.

If you caught the ferry over the lake and walked right you would get to St Gilgen. But most of the walk is next to the road. So not very nice. If you walked left towards Strobl it's a nice walk. Part of it follows a railway line that closed in the 50's.

Thank you.

That's exactly what I wanted to know.

Is there a particular cafe that you would recommend in Strobl?

To be honest I always eat at this hotel.

It is lake side and does great snacks, cake or meals.

Great view down the lake.

Very close to where the boat comes in.

From St Wolfgang walk the lakeside in the direction of St Gilgen. On the lakeside, somewhere fairly nearly opposite the Hotel Marguerite, there is a tiny ferry boat - you have to ring a bell and it comes to get you! This takes you to the opposite bank into the caravan site. With the lake at your back turn right and walk to Strobl - it's a super little walk going along the lakeside as an earlier advisor said. Lunch in Strobl, ferry (normal one this time!) back to St W, or walk back - it's not far and the section just outside Strobl round a small headland is lovely. Part of the walk back is on the main road, but when you get to St W go through the graveyard which gets you back to the lakeside. Strudle and coffee at the White Horse Inn. Lovely day!

"Part of the walk back is on the main road"

Is there a footpath along the section that is along the main road? We hate dodging cars!

'Tis 3 years since I was there but I'm 99% sure there is a good footpath alongside the road.

Both sides of the lake where it's next to a road there is a proper path for walkers and cyclists.
