There are many brands and they fall into 2 general categories.

There are the smaller square sided bottles around 350ml(?) capacity. Plastic is clear. We saw many brands in almost identical bottles and our hotel supplied 2/day complimentary, with the brand they supplied shifting over the days. Our guide recommended these as "better quality" water. Cost was about 4/US$1 in markets and double that at temples. As a tourist, expect the asking price to be at least double that, but a little negotiation will usually get a better deal.

There is also a larger (500ml?) variety that comes in an opaque blue plastic that is cheaper. Our guide "suggested" we shouldn't buy these (and neither he or the driver drank them - they had a supply of the smaller bottles).

Larger versions (1.5L) of the good quality water were widely available - we bought in a small mini-mart attached to a pharmacy in "pub street" at very reasonable prices. But they are a lot less handy when out and about.

Also, we were warned to be careful about ice in drinks - only have ice in drinks from better quality restaurants & bars.

I found Evian bottles imported from France.

I think it costed around 2 USD for a 1 / 1.5L bottle.

I bought various brands of local water, with a seal.

All tasted OK & no problems with it.

I do beg to differ that bottled water is bottled water. Spring water, distilled water, French water, tap water...don' t they all have their differences. And wouldn't you wonder about the quality or safety of some cheap bottled waters?

It sure could be, especially in a third world country where they may just bottle unpurified tap water. Look at what the Chinese have been caught doing and then think again!
