Blog trip report with pictures January 8-19, 2014

I had posted a generic narrative but then I created this blog which reads faster and the pictures are on the same page. On the right side are the destinations such as Siem Reap and the dates.

A big thanks to all who helped me in planning our time in Siem Reap.

Wow, fabulous blog! Such an entertaining read, you really write well and your pictures are beautiful. I can relate to your OCD planning tendencies, I think I pretty much do the same! Only difference perhaps, I mostly do my planning and itinerary in Excel, but I do print out a calendar for the months we'll be away and jot in the destinations, that way I know what days we're doing stuff and what days we have free.

What an awful start you had to your trip, but I guess it was good that you had several months away and not just a week or 2, otherwise the delays would have eaten into your limited time.

Off to finish reading the blog! Getting excited for our 2nd visit to Cambodia later this year.

Thank you for sharing your blog. it was fun to read it. I visited Angkor Wat in Dec '12 and we will be going there again in Dec '14. I think one day was not enough there, but my kids were only 5 & 9 yrs old back then. We hope to see more next time.

This has inspired me. I may be going to SR in a month's time with my son and was really concerned about how a 57 year old would manage the climbing and clambering. Angkor has been at the top of my 'bucket list' since doing Uni research in the late 70s but I was always concerned about my fitness.

Thank you so much for your blog. It will really help with an itinerary.

Am still a little concerned about the heat in June but if we take it slowly, we'll manage.

Thanks Steve. I think the extra on an sir conditioned car may help make the journey a little more accessible. Appreciate the tip.

Sandra-Yes, take it slowly. You will enjoy what you're seeing even more so. Like I said, I was 68 at the time we were there and not in good physical shape and I managed but went slow. Having a pool at our hotel was a big plus for us. It was a way to recharge/refresh. You can do the split days for a small charge-it was $2 extra. We had a car for part of our trip and used tuk tuk other times as it is much cheaper. I think you could do both car & tuk tuk. The tuk tuk was fun and you get the breeze and he always had cold water for us.

Steve's advice about the shoes is spot on. We wore our Keens which are very sturdy.

Have a great trip!

Thanks Chris. Oh yes ... I only wear very good shoes when travelling! Need to be stable in our 'dotage' ! Only hope I can convince the accompanying 20 year old to do the same.

The small charges for splitting the days would be well worth it as I know it will be hot but is the only time we can get away.

Again, thanks for the encouragement!
