weather now

How's the weather been lately? I am due to arrive in siem reap mid next week and forecast shows rains. Does it rain the entire day? How strong? Hope the rain won't dampen our tour!

it generally rains some part of most days - usually a heavy storm late afternoon - typical monsoon rains - just plan accordingly - take an umbrella (too hot for a raincoat) start early in the day, pop into a bar or restaurant to wait out the rain if necessary, be flexible with your plans

the rain will only dampen (ha ha) your tour if you are prepared to let it - the temples in/after the rain are beautiful - all washed clean and the things starting to green up after the long dry season

We have been in Siem Reap since Sunday and it has been bloody hot. We had a thunderstorm with heavy rain yesterday about 5pm. It rained for about 30mins, would love more.

Cheers Jan

No we haven't but went to Haven twice which was great and just ate at Genevieve's tonight which was also excellent. Yes, it is very hot here.

Cheers Jan

The weather this year has been anything but "typical." The rains started early this year in late March and then unexpectedly stopped. It has been extremely hot the last two months and only recently have the skies begun to darken and threaten rain. Usually it doesn't and the sky is clear again or there is a light to medium rain for at the most 30-45 minutes and the sky is clear again; then it is like living in a sauna. I have described the weather in Kampong Cham, but the same is true in Prey Veng, Battambang and I suspect from #2's comment is applicable to Siam Reap too. Many rice farmers are scared to death. When the rains came early they planted their seedlings which are now beginning to wither in places with no irrigation. It may be monsoon season but as yet there are no monsoons. So as of yet the stereotypical "it generally rains some part of most days - usually a heavy storm late afternoon - typical monsoon rains" is simply not true. There is no doubt it will rain, but when is the question.

Just had 3 days of almost solid rain down here in Sihanoukville, rained night and day and for a LOT longer then an hour at a time. And believe me, we needed it! Today is a beautiful sunny day!

Please send it north Hotdigr; we need it. In all seriousness our two posts show that weather in Cambodia is more like a series of micro climates and there is no general statement about it that is applicable. Pat answers are always suspect.
