are you using the app on your phone? if so, head to a laptop or pc and check out the 'Boat Travel' top question - its towards the bottom of the list of Top Questions (which you cant see using the app)

There are also quite a few relatively recent threads on that topic which you can access via the search box (directly above your post - or directly above the list of topics on the Cambodia forum front page - but again you need to be on a laptop or pc) search for 'boat to Phnom Penh" (or something similar) and you'll get to all previous threads - filter for date if necessary via the little drop down thingy at the right hand end of the top line.

Some of the more luxurious boats are booked right through from Saigon. The other consideration is water level in Tonle Sap, often it's not navigable in the dry season. December/Jan I'm not sure. Also beware, some boat trips advertise Phnom Penh to Seam Reap but actually terminate far short of your destination and pack you in to a minibus for a three hour connection. You absolutely don't want to be in a long tail boat for six hours.

There is lots of info: just google boat tours from Pnhom Penh to Seam Reap.

Well in December the water levels will be high enough for all the boats to travel, the speed boat takes about 6 hours and costs $35,the other option are the riverboats they take 2 days for the trip,as the riverboats travel at a much slower speed.prices start from about $300 up to $1000 depending on the service, normally all meals and drinks are included together with luxury accomadation on board and all land tours, the third option is part cruise and part road, takes about 5 hours via cruiser and 3 hours via road so total of 8 hours.prices are about $100 and include meals and drinks ect.

Steffeni, My husband and I also wanted to see the sights from the river so we have booked a 1 day tour called the Mekong Cruise Connection by Adventure Cambodia. The tour leaves from either Siem Reap or Phnom Penh and includes the below.

Siem Reap to Phnom Penh:

.8:00 am to 12:00 am: pickup at hotel by private car and transfer to Mekong River with rest break at "tarantula village"

12:00 am: board 2-deck boat on the Mekong River and lunch is served on boat

12:45 am: arrive at island for swimming at island beach

1:30 pm to 6:00 pm: cruise downriver along the islands, stopping for numerous excursions and sight-seeing

6:00 pm to 6:30: cross through four rivers and up Tonle Sap River, passing Phnom Penh Riverside

6:30 pm: arrive at Phnom Penh boat dock, transfer to hotel

No reviews of it on Tripadvisor though, we have booked for October.

Hello Rosa11969 ,

Having read your tour description, I would hardly call it going from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh by boat.

The only way from Siem Reap to Phnom by boat is to travel down the length of the Tonle Sap.

You are, in fact, not going down the Tonle Sap to Phnom Penh but taking a fairly long cross-country road trip from Siem Reap down National Road # 6 - the main road to Phnom Penh, then on to National Road # 7 and stopping briefly at Skuon to see the spiders and then on to, most probably, Kg Cham, depending on water levels, to board a vessel on the Mekong River.

The section of the Mekong River from Kg Cham or a bit south of there, depending on water levels, is interesting. Particulary so as you turn in towards Phnom Penh and the confluence of the Mekong, Bassac and Tonle Sap rivers.

Best regards. Ian/Angkorlad
