Going to Shenzhen next month. Interested to know whether you got prescription glasses there. If you did do you bargain, and do you buy the frames from the optometrist or from one of the shops. I have bought frames from there before.
Penny, I bought prescription glasses in Shenzhen just over a month ago. I got them from Michael on the 4th floor of the Luohu commercial centre. Yes, I haggled. They were ready in a few hours and I have no complaints about the results. I got the frames from the same place, but I brought the prescription with me from my country. Michael told me he could test my eyes on the spot.
Hope this is useful to you.
Hi, have just returned from Shenzen where I bought 2 pairs of prescription reading glasses from Lo Wu shopping centre, cant remember which floor but he tested my eyes and I chose frames and they were made up in about 3 hrs all for around NZ$60 a pair, they work great and I am very pleased with my purchase.
Thanks John for the reccommendation I am off there next week will try and find Michael.
Why have prescription reading glasses? Several eye doctors (who don't make money selling glasses) told me that the cheap ones that you buy over-the-counter are fine. I guess maybe you want specific frames.
What if the strength of both sides are different?
That is pretty rare so you need to have them made.
Thanks for that. Mine are different and will be visiting for the first time later in the year so was curious as to whether it's worth looking for a pair over there or not.
I sm hoping to do the same thing for my daughter when we go there in Jan 2010. She has one eye much weaker than the other and wants prescription glasses and sunglasses. I'd be so interested to hear how you get on.
