Where to stay

My partner and I have 1 or 2 nights to stay in Cartagena next month. Can anyone offer the pros and cons of staying in Bocagrande, Centro, San Diego or Getsemani. I only mention these because these are noted on Google maps. We would be open to staying in another areas. We are looking for something nice but super expensive. We prefer smaller hotels or apartments. A pool would be a nice added benefit. We are considering staying on Rosario Island for a night but would also consider it as a day trip. THoughts/suggestions?

Would love to spend more time but aren't able to do so on this trip.

Thanks TA!

1. Re: Where to stay

Bocagrande is the newer, more touristy part of the city. It's close to the beach and it is very cheap to catch a cab from there into the old city.

The true beauty of Cartagena is the old city, so staying in Centro, San Diego or Getsemani would allow you to more fully experience the atmosphere of Cartagena. Getsemani may give you more contact with locals and allow you to experience more of the local "flavour" but anywhere in the old city (including San Diego) would be great.

Our criteria is exactly as yours (next month as well) and we chose Casa Bustamante, a boutique hotel with excellent reviews, great price, small pool and short walking distance to Walled City. Check out their Tripadvisor reviews. We are also doing a day trip to Rosario Islands (Island Baru really, at Isla Del Encanto private beach and hotel).
