6 Nights in Cartagena Itinerary

We are planning a 6 night stay in cartagena this July. We are looking to explore, eat well, and get some quality beach time in as well. What would a suggested itinerary be? Thanks!

So much to do! Do not miss Segway Cartagena. That is the best way to kick off your vacation. It takes you around the walled city and the segways (believe it or not) are so much fun! The guide can also give you advice to fit your needs as they know everything about the city. You can book through www.segwaycartagena.com

Restaurants: Marea by Rausch, Brujas de Cartagena (Peruvian), and Don Juan are my personal faves. There's a new speak easy I heard of called Frank & Frank which I heard was really good, too.

Don't miss a trip to the Rosario islands! If you're on a budget, visit the public beach Playa Blanca. For a more private experience, there are several options for day trips to a private island, some of which are Gente de Mar and San Pedro de Majagua.

LOL you are the first person I have known to do the Segway tour - nice to know it was a good tour.

It really depends on your style but here it goes what I suggest.

Reserve 2-3 days to explore every inch of the ciudad amurallada - walled city and its surroundings. Reserve one day to Islas del Rosari/Isla Baru -- this is a popular day trip departing from Cartagena. Reserve another day to the "new" part of the city, Bocagande. Then you have a free day.

Skip Bocagrande. If you want beach, stay a night in Zona Norte. Hotel Corales de Indias is the newest one, and it is the closest to the Old City with good beach access. You'll avoid the tourist-hecklers of Bocagrande and have much less trouble with traffic getting to the Old City, which is where you want to be in the evening. Bocagrande is only good if you like casinos.

If you are a foodie, must try El Boliche Cebicheria. If you want to have a drink, a decent lunch at a small café - try El Bacon. Hang out in the square at Donde Fidel at night before heading out to the clubs like Babar. Only time we did Bocagrande was on the Chiva Rumba bus, which was so much fun - stopped at local bars, stopped along the walls to gather with other bus riders for the drumming and dancers. I would suggest doing one of the private beaches owned by a resort for the day tour to Rosario Island, as it has been suggested. We did Isla del Encanto. And taxis are so cheap!
