Question about Tipping Driver

Good morning everyone. We are headed to Tunica this weekend, and I have a question for anyone who knows the area. The hotel is sending a limo to pick us up in Memphis, and it's about a 30-mile trip back. The limo will be comped, but I need to know how much we should tip the driver. We are using the limo to return to the airport on Monday.

I posted this on the Tunica board but there's not much activity over there. If anyone has any suggestions, please throw them out here. Without even knowing the going rate for this trip, I'm curious to see what others consider to be appropriate given the situation.

Thanks in advance!

30 to 45 minutes limo drive, I would tip about $50 each way. The drivers usually appreciate it.

I'm sure the driver would more than appreciate a $50 tip each way - that sound excessive! I think $20 each way is more than enough. Remember, this is a tip, and they are being paid by the hotel for their services.

Hi Luvbreezes: Enjoy your trip to Tunica - we went in December and had a great time although the gaming was very tight. It takes about 30 minutes to Memphis with no traffic. We were comped a mini van by the hotel because we wanted to tour Beale Street. We gave the driver $20 each way and he seemed very pleased. I do think $50 is excessive (and I am a generous tipper) for the area. There were other passengers in our van (also comped, I'm sure) and no one tipped but us.

Be sure to post your report when you get back. Where are you staying? If the Grand Casino - we had a lovely suite on the top (7th) floor corner but I can't remember the name of the tower (there are 3). The hotel is not connected to the casino but a shuttle runs constantly all night long and it takes 2 minutes or less. The steak house at the Grand was great - very much like Rib & Chop at Showboat. Food prices were a bit less than in AC. The staff was very nice so don't be afraid to ask for something extra.

Good luck! - ACMama

Unless the driver really goes out of his way ( a couple stops or some extra heavy luggage ) I would tip $20 (total for 1-3 people) each way . Less for a shared limo ($5 pp) or a van ($2-$3pp).

LuvB... Even before reading the others' responses, my initial thought was $20; that sounds about right.

Really hope you enjoy your time in Tunica; like ACMama said, your Trip Report would be appreciated! <grin>

Although the whole country, practically, seems to be in a bit of a cold spell, hopefully the weather will brighten up some for you two this weekend.

Drink lots, eat lots, and WIN LOTS! lol

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like $25 should do the trick. I'm hoping for a stocked bar when he picks us up (I really hate to fly!). Weather permitting, we should be on our way by this time tomorrow. I will post something next week, probably on the Tunica page.

I must say my dealings so far with the host at Resorts in Tunica has been exceptional. She called our host at the AC Hilton and the next thing I knew we were being comped a suite, all meals, drinks, and transportation. She made our dinner reservations, and even offered to call The Grand to book my spa treatments! Next, she apologized profusely for calling me back, but she realized she forgot to ask what kind of beverages we wanted stocked in our room! I can't wait to see what we are getting ourselves into! How can we not have fun -- being treated like a couple of high-rollers is going to be a blast!!

Cheers,

LuvBreezes
