Calling Ambrva!

Hey Girlfriend!

I am going to Vegas for the 1st time since 3/05. What's hot and happening? What casinos do you find to be the best/loose for slots? I should probably be in the Vegas forum, but I know you are here.

What's the best birthing casino? LOL

Hey aquarius!

Congrats on your first Vegas trip - you're going to love it!

Where are you staying?

I like to play at O'Shea's (next to and owned by Flamingo). They get a fun/loud/rowdy crowd there at night. They also have a midget that runs around on the bar and gives out shots (really). I'm not a huge fan of the main Flamingo casino.

I (surprisingly) also really liked playing slots at Caesars Palace. I seemed to do consistantly well there and my money lasted a long time. Also the employees there were the nicest/most helpful (as an overall group) of any casino I've been to. EVERYONE there was nice. It was almost surreal.

You've gotta hit downtown. I love it, some people hate it. But after a couple days of trekking around the monstrous casinos on the strip it's a lot of fun to be able to quickly run from one casino to the other. My favorite downtown is the El Cortez. It's about 2 blocks from the covered Fremont St. Experience (it's on Fremont but not under the canopy). It is very old school and has some very good VP games and low table limits. (Don't expect everyone to be nice like at Caesars tho. A lot of the staff here seems grouchy.) I also like Binions and Main Street Station downtown. Mermaids has the best drink service of all the downtown places.

Off the strip I like the Palace Station. If you want to go but don't have a car you can take their shuttle for free. It picks up from the Tropicana and the Fashion Show Mall every hour until around 11pm. They have a great Oyster Bar there. They have these things they call Pan Roasts that the best thing I've ever eaten. PS is a very friendly locals casino. It's pretty easy to get comp'ed rooms here - they're my usual backup plan if I have trouble getting rooms on the strip over the weekend.

It you have a car check out Rosemary's. It's about 7 miles off the strip, but the food is great. Wednesday night is Ladies Night and all females get 50% off their food bill. If you go to their website you can print out a coupon for a $20 3 course lunch (that's what we're doing this trip). www.rosemarys.com

Paris has a good breakfast/lunch buffet. I like the lunch better cause they have these really good grilled meats they put out for lunch. They have made to order crepes that are really good, and a very good selection of cheeses.

Wynn has an awesome buffet too, but it is very expensive (say $35 for dinner) and usually there's a long wait.

Behind Ballys on Koval Ln. is Ellis Island. Their restaurant has a $4.95 steak special that is good. It's sirloin, not filet mignon, but it's a big thick cut and it tastes pretty darn good. You also get garlic green beans that are great, a potato and a salad. It's not an elegant setting, but the food is very good and cheap.

The Augustus Cafe at Caesars Palace is good stuff too. I had the crispy pork shanks and it was really good.

Roberta's at the El Cortez is good; so is the little Mexican/Cuban restaurant across Fremont from the El Cortez. (Their fajitas especially, as well as their salsa.)

Other random things:

Don't eat at the Imperial Palace - their food is not good. (It's fun to play there tho.)

Casino Royale smells funny and their $50 free play is not worth standing in line for. They only have a couple (all $1 3-reel slots) machines you can play it on, you can't move machines, and you must play at least $2 at a time.

Don't take the bus downtown, it takes forever. Just pay for a taxi.

LOL - there's my Vegas brain dump. Any specific questions let me know.

Ambrva

Wow!! Thanks!! I'm staying at MGM Signature--kind of an experiment we have bunch of people going out in July for my best friends milestone bday--so I want to check that out. A lot of them smoke though so this may not be the place for them. I'm a reformed smoker so I'm very excited about it. I want a coffee pot in my room. Sounds ridiculous, right?

How ironic--I have to agree with you on your picks based on my last visit there in 05---I thought OSheas was a riot--I did not know about the midget I will definitely check that out!! I agree with you about Caesars--I stayed at the Flamingo and every time I walked across the street & went to play slots at Caesars I won & the staff was wonderful.

I don't think I hit Palace Station so I will check that out. I did go downtown & played at Fremont Street for a bit. It was there I found some of the older games that I liked but hadn't been able to find on the strip.

I thought the Stratosphere was a dump--my friend & I had the buffet there cuz we had a coupon and it was horrendous.. Thank you so much for all your tips I am going to print it down and take it with me!

Thank you SO much!!!

It's funy - the first time I went to the Stratosphere I played blackjack for a while and they comp'ed me the buffet. I thought it was good - but it was the Friday seafood night buffet AND I was drunk. I had coupons for it on another trip a year later and thought it was pretty bad. I'm still trying to decide if it declined in quality that much or if I was just drunk the first time. LOL

I'm headed to Vegas on the 22nd (less than a week!) so I'll let you know if I find anything new and exciting while I'm there!

ambrva,

What slots do you like to play at Caesar's? I'm headed to Vegas on 2/28 and I'll be staying at Caesar's for the first time. I'd like to play here too, but when I've been there before I've had a hard time finding somewhere I like to play - the casino seems massive.

Thanks.

The place IS massive. I'll try to give you directions as best I can.

Coming out of the Augustus tower walk thru the lobby into the casino. Walk to your left. You'll walk a long way, past the sportsbook. On the other side of the sportsbook are a lot of fun machines.

We were not at the Stratosphere on a Friday nite and we did not have a seafood buffet. Anything is good when you're drunk LOL!!!

Yep, Bud...nothing like the feeling of knowing that DH and I have no pre-arranged schedule for the whole time...don't have to be ANYWHERE at ANY TIME other than the airport to go back to freezing NJ on the 2nd...I refuse to make any reservations...so tired of getting myself and the kids (and my 83 year old Dad) to work, dentists, orthodontists, doctors, etc. Although I'm very happy that the plane we get on is headed to Vegas, I realized last evening that , as long as it is headed somewhere warmer than NJ, and alcoholic beverages are served, i'd be glad to go almost anywhere!!!!

Me & Bud_Dry are planning a trip to Vegas sometime this summer. Maybe we can make it a Forum Trip & all the Regulars could meet up for a Blast in Sin City.

I know Ambrva is in. You just can't keep that girl cooped up in the house too long LOL. Besides it just wouldn't be right not to have her guiding our " SIN CITY DRUNKFEST " eh !!!!!!
