Wait to you here this story.......

Went ot AC to celebrate by wife's birthday. I had a comped room at Showboat and she had a certificate for a free lobster dinner for her birthday as part of the Palm 837 club membership.

Arrived at Showboat and took the cheap route of free self parking for gold members as valet for gold was $10.00. Check-in went smoothly. Had a room in the Orlean tower that was ok, but nothing special. I'll post a review on the rooom in the hotel section. We had some time to kill before dinner so we hit the slots. I found a party spin quarter machine that kept giving me a little at a time. When it was time to leave to dinner I was up $70.00.

Dinner at the Palm was good as usual, valet on Pacific Ave just outside the Palm and the Palm validates your ticket for free valet parking.

Back to the Showboat. Went looking for the party spin machine that was good to me and found a young lady playing "my" machine! Waited until she cashed out, looked like she was winning also. I sat down and started playing and won an additional $50.00 and cashed out. Gave up my lucky machine to my wife, after all it was her birthday.

She's doing pretty good on the machine also. An older woman sits down next to my wife and all of a sudden my wife starts saying how her eyes are burning and she is tearing up pretty good. My wife has some strong allergies and we both thought the woman that sat down next to her was wearing something she was allergic to. So my wife gets up to get some air and I sit down to save the slot for her. After about 5 minutes my wife comes back a little better after finding a bathroom and washing her face. She sits down to play again and complains that her glasses are spotty. I take them off and see her glasses are spotted with an oily substance at which time we realize she was hit with pepper spray that had to be sprayed from the other side of the machine she was playing on. At first I though it was probably someone maliciously spraying the pepper spray into the air but as the night went on I was wondering if it was attempt to get her away from her slot and someone coming up to cash out and steal her ticket. Luckily for her she was wearing her glasses and not her contacts as her glasses took most of the spray.

Just another thing we have to think about when in a casino gambling. We probably should have reported it but didn't and security seemed real light, there were more security guards watching a closed off section of slots than I saw anywhere else.

The good news is my wife okay and the machine was pretty good to my wife also and she cashed out ahead. While walking back to our room we passed the large wheel of fortune nickel machine and mentioned how I was interested in how it worked so we stuck a $20.00 in and cashed out with $60.00. All told we were left ahead just under $200.00. Not the big wins that I've seen posted here but for me my first winning visit in about a year. I think the key was not being gready and be happy I got a comp room and $200.00 in just a couple hours of play. Normally I would have taken the $200 to a dollar machine hoping to double it only to watch it disappear.

So another birthday tale to be told by wife, free room, good dinner, pepper spray and win money, a day to remember in AC.

Happy Birthday to your wife!!!

I'm bringing my goggles to drunkfest! Just what I need, another gosh darn thing to worry about in AC. Can't use a credit card at the Gulf station and have to remember to cash out and grab my ticket when my eyes start to burn.

Wow - I am really glad your wife is okay and had her glasses on! That is really wild.

I think you are right that someone was trying to distract her. A direct hit would make someone immediately bend over and gab their eyes. It would be really easy to hit cash out and take the ticket while a person was distracted like that. The person wouldn't have to get up from the machine because immediately after being hit with pepper spray your eyes are so teared up it's hard to open them, and you can't see well at all.

That's just about the creepiest thing I've heard! I know it probably wouldn't have done any good but if this happens to anyone else you really need to report it to the casino. I'm glad your wife is OK and I guess you'll have an interesting story to share about her birthday "party."

Time to play "devil's advocate " !

I am suprised that no one actually saw the act / sight /sound of spraying mace .( Would they have sprayed it over the top of the machine , or through the little opening between the machines ? ) Mace is hard to casully and discreetly direct without affecting oneself . Also it is not something one would want to get caught with . It would be strange to see someone use this while a husband or friend was nearby to help . If I saw this happen to my wife I would be posting this from jail . (Last Sunday I chased down and lectured a woman who threw a lit butt out her car window on the GSP heading north from AC . At 70 MPH a lit butt becomes a torch that can cause accidents , fires along the roadway , or it can re-enter ones own car or the car behind you . In this case it got stuck in my windshield wiper . Ever notice all the smokers who don't want to dirty their car's ashtray with burnt ashes, stale tobbacco and saliva and tar soaked filters . The GSP used to have heavy fines for tossing out cigs and other garbarge . This was a great way to make some extra tax dollars !)

This is bad allergy season . Predicted to be the worst . A cigarette being smoked nearby is enought to turn the tables and make someone have a bad reaction . ( Last Sunday I wanted to play spin poker at Showboat and the only available seat was next to a guy smoking a foot long cigar with the diameter of a quarter . I tolerated it as he was there first , and he was a friendly enough guy . But my wife started tearing up if she came within 6 feet of us . )

Soapy water splashed a bit while washing up can leave an oily residue on eyeglassses .

jerry... It is ridiculous that a person should have to be on the lookout for pepper spray and any and all distractions while enjoying oneself. I am sorry to hear about that portion of your trip Jerry!

At least everything else went well, so hopefully the pepper spray doesn't totally ruin your memory of the jaunt.

You know, it seems pretty obvious to me that the eye in the sky usually only notices something afoul if it costs *the casino* money, but not a player. If the person sitting next to Jerry's wife had put in a slug or otherwise tampered with the machine, I am pretty sure the person would have been apprehended swiftly. But surely someone spraying pepper spray --even inconspicuously -- would have been noitced?

It reminds me of when the one poster (can't remember the name) said she had her purse (I think it was) stolen inside one of the lounges, but supposedly there were no cameras in the lounge or at the entrance to the lounge. Seemed fishy then, and still seems fishy now.

The casino security forces are looking more and more like cops: looking out for their own self interests (money and revenue) and not really caring about you (citizen or gambler).

Anyway, Jerry, glad your wife is okay!

Allure, I don't want to get into a written debate on this subject but as stated in my post this would have been spray over the top of the machine from an aisle on the opposite side of the back of the slot.

I know from my previous employment what the effects of peper spray are as opposed to an allergic reaction. You will not hear the sound of a spray from behind back to back rows of machines.

I take offense to you challenging my post and what happened to my wife.

If this happened in front of me and not from a area that I could not see, blocked by the machines things would have been different.

Hope you don't expierence something like this and than have someone play "devils advocate!
