Smoking ban update

Only two weeks to go to the minimum 75% smoking ban in the AC casinos .

Trop will not have any smoking areas for gamblers but a smoker's lounge instead . All Harrah's properties ( Bally's , Wild West , Showboat and Harrah's ) will substitute smoker's lounges for any smoking allowed gaming areas by June .

Some other casinos may take the same path if it works out for Harrah's because these are cheaper to build / maintain and workers only have to enter when there are no smokers present . Some might have vending machines but no waitress or bar service seems to be planned .

alurre45 -- information is partially correct. As of April 15th.. the casinos will not be smoke free. They have to submit their approved smoke free renovation action plans to the state.. they will also start converting some of the table areas to non-smoking only.. Harrrahs properties have until October to conform to the new policies. As far as tropicana I do not gamble their so I am unaware of there plan.

My understanding of the April 15th deadline is that ALL AC casinos will have to be smoke free , other than an up to 25% of the total gaming floor that can be ROPED OFF for smokers . Universal "No Smoking" symbols will have to be posted in all other parts of the casino . The October deadline is for the totally ENCLOSED smoker's gambling areas , as the roped off open areas will no longer be allowed . Trop has publically stated that on Apr. 15th it will become a smoke free casino except for the smokers lounge which will be about 6% of the size of the gaming area . Most Harrah's properties will have a very small area roped off for smokers on April 15th but will close them when the smoker's lounges open . They are all expected to be open by June . These 5 casinos are not submitting plans for Enclosed Smoker's Gambling Areas . The other casinos are submitting plans but are taking a wait and see attitude . Borgota invested a lot of money in high tech smokers gaming tables before the ban . Taj has already planned the roped off area ( includes the Asian Pit ) . Trump Marina and Trump Plaza will rope off some areas to begin with but said they are leaning towards changing over to the smoker's lounges like the Harrah's properties . Resorts and Hilton will have roped off areas on April 15th and are waiting to see how other casinos are operating before they commit to building enclosed gambling areas for smokers .

An additional pressure on the casinos is the threat that the NJ State Legislature could decide to end the casino loophole that allows the smoker's gambling areas and indoor smoker's lounges .
