NYC to Atlantic City

Hi All,

I'm from California and will be in New york for a week. I'm thinking about making a trip to Atlantic city from NYC. I can rent a car but would prefer not to drive unless it makes my life so much better. I'm thinking about taking a bus. Can you guys help me look at my options?

1. Should I rent a car or take a tour bus? If bus, then do you have information on any?

2. How is AC compared to Las Vegas? Is it similar to Reno?

3. Anything else around New Jersey for me to check out? Or anywhere else I should check out since i'll be in AC?

4. Will 2 nights and 3 days enough?

5. We'll be going midweek so hotel prices should be cheaper than normal. Any recommendation as to the best hotel to stay?

Since it'll be on a weekday, the hotel prices should be low.. so I would like to book the best place for the price..

6. Any other useful information would be much appreciated!

Thank you.

HGLY,

If you really want to take the bus, I would suggest catching a Academy Bus at Port Authority at 42 St and 8 Ave. They leave Port Authority starting at 730 am. Roundtrip fare is $31.00. Your ticket to return is valid for 3 or 4 days. Not sure. We took the bus to the Tropicana Hotel and received $22.00 back from the $31.00 fare before we got off the bus. 3 days should suffice. If you want to stay on the Boardwalk, I would suggest Caesars or Ballys or even the Tropicana.

Me personally, I am biased to the Borgata on the marina side. I would go to the website of each hotel and find out what fits your budget.

If you do take the bus, make sure you get the schedule so you know what time to catch the bus returning to NYC.

Be aware that the buses do not go to Borgata or Harrah's . The only hotel in the Marina area they do go to is the Trump Marina . You will have to Jitney , cab or walk over to Harrah's or Borgata .

The Trop has midweek packages that are at their website .

thanks for the advice. I'd posted on the new york board and was called crazy for planning to stay there for 3 days.. I guess AC either stinks or NY folks don;t like NJ lol...

I stay sometimes for 3 days or more. Don't listen to them. I did forget to mention that if you do decide to stay on the marina side, the only hotel the bus goes to is the Trump Marina. Now if you do decide to stay at the Borgata, take the Jitney #2 from the boardwalk side to the Marina side. They have a #6 Jitney that just goes from Borgata to Trump to Harrahs.

Like the previous post, check out the prices for Tropicana. I stayed there years ago and I liked it. I haven't stayed there in a while so I cannot give my opinion on their rooms.

Go to Academybus.com and you can get the schedule of where each bus goes to when it leaves NYC.

Many people from NYC are strickly "bus people" . They go down ,get their cash back bonus , play slots till the bus is ready to pull out again , and they never take advantage of any of the other things AC has to offer . Yea , if all you do is eat , sleep and play slots ,3 days is too long . Even in Vegas . Make a game plan of things you would like to see and do while you are there and have fun !

Before mid-April, AC was where NYC went to smoke (Simpsons reference).

jmp... Now, AC is where Philadelphians go to breathe... LOL j/k

Hgly... Do not expect AC to be "Vegas with a beach". Away from the casinos, some of the town has a kind of tired look about it, like it could use a good scrubbing. But the casino areas and Boardwalk are in great shape, and you probably will have no reason to venture too far from this.

Check out whoot.com for a listing of entertainment happenings around town, and this will give you a little break from the gaming. There are some nice lounges in AC, although the drinks can be pricey.

Table minimums in AC are higher than in Vegas, but the general consensus is that the AC slots pay out better. You will have a great time if you don't expect "Las Vegas East". Enjoy!
